Dolly Parton
NYC, 1994 8
Dolly Parton, Manhattan NY, 1994. Dolly walks in in this gingham dress with her guitar strapped on her, denim jacket covered in rhinestones, and she is so country—just the epitome of country—but there’s something more...she’s also just Dolly. Everything about her was big. She had her big hair, you know, big personality, a big career, and big...I mean, you know...you can’t ignore them, and she certainly didn’t want to either.
She’s this legend, and it’s such an honor when you get to work with someone you truly respect and admire—and they show up, not only ready to create but bring so much fun and energy to the process. She was larger than life, but her voice was small and the way she spoke so demure, like she didn’t need to overpower anyone. Dolly was born poor, 11 siblings...I mean, it was incredible that she became who she is. She isn’t a diva, yet she has the right to be one. She’s one of a kind and she’s not trying to be, she just is. No apologies, no pretensions, just Dolly.
