Eva Mendes
Los Angeles, CA 2006 5
Eva Mendes, Downtown Los Angeles, CA, 2006. Eva Mendes is one of those rare people who radiates warmth and charisma the moment you meet her. I first worked with her in Australia on the movie poster for Ghost Rider, but it wasn’t until later, back in LA, that I got to see how playful and uninhibited she could be in front of the camera.
I scouted this funky, abandoned hotel downtown—a funky relic with a red bedroom that was as gritty as it was intriguing. The place was rough—smelly, worn-down, with paint peeling off the walls and stains on the carpet. But there was something compelling about its grotesque rawness, so I went with it. We put Eva in this glamorous gown—a sharp contrast to the setting. Eva didn’t shy away from the space, she embraced it. It’s rare to find someone willing to dive head first into an experience like that. We took an unlikely location and turned it into a moment. It was one of those shoots that reminded me how creativity can thrive in even the unlikeliest spaces.
