George Jones, Nashville TN, 1989. I was told about this place, and it was this old woman’s country barbecue stand. When George and I walked in, it was like a time warp. Like time had stopped, you know, in a whole other period down South. In this timeless piece of Americana, this wonderful shack that couldn’t have been more perfect, I was sitting with country royalty.
George and I talked for hours, and one of the things we connected on was how where we came from shaped the people we would become. He grew up in East Texas, and I the East Coast. We had different childhoods, different life experiences, and yet, we both understood the importance of bringing where you come from into your art. It shaped his sound, his lyrics, and that grit and that honesty is what made him so important in country music. He set the stage, and his legacy is what helped build the legacies of contemporary country artists to come.
Each photograph is produced as an archival pigment print on Canson Platine Fibre Rag paper. All prints are hand-signed by the artist and offered as editioned Artist Proofs (A/P).
