Glenn Close
Bedford, NY 1996 3
Glenn Close, Upstate NY, 1996. Working with actresses can be tricky. Some are intimidated by the still camera, since they’re used to the constantly moving motion picture camera, which they don’t have to focus on or address directly. But some, especially those with theater backgrounds, are more comfortable with it, and Glenn was one of those people. We developed a strong relationship over time and worked together many times over the years. This particular shoot was from a session at her house in Bedford, New York.
They were these perfectly picturesque scenes—Glenn on her swing hanging from a tree dressed in this beautiful gold lamé gown, sharing a special moment with her horse in her stable, her cat following her as she walked down a grassy hill in her backyard—so here we were, doing this sweet, wholesome shoot with her animals in her home. It was this really intimate day. So when we walked back into the house and there’s this giant knife mounted in her kitchen, it was quite the juxtaposition. I recognized it immediately—the knife from Fatal Attraction, right there against the backsplash.
